A Sacrifice That Touches the Heart
Enes Süslü 06.05.2026

My husband passed away years ago. Since then, my children and grandchildren and I have been working the garden behind our house — vegetables, some fruit. We keep what we need and sell the rest to neighbors.

I'm originally from Kakeza, a village about two kilometers from here. But I was here last year when you came. And the year before. Every year. You probably can't imagine what it means to see you walk through that gate again.

Years ago, on a day much like this one — an Eid gathering, this same kind of warmth in the air — I decided to become Muslim. I had watched how Muslims treated other people. The gentleness. The way they showed up. I felt it then, and I have felt it every year since.

With this meat, I'll make sadza for the holiday. The children, the grandchildren, all of us around the table. It's a real gift. From the bottom of my heart — thank you. May God be pleased with you.
