Water remains a matter of life and death across much of Afghanistan. Declining rainfall, crumbling infrastructure, and contaminated surface water have created serious risks throughout the country. Even in Kabul, the capital, one in two people cannot reliably access safe drinking water. A significant share of the infection cases that spike every summer traces back to unsafe water sources.
We are now drilling a deep water well directly beside Jangalak Hospital in Kabul, and building a pipeline to supply the facility. The work involves a 130-meter borehole, water quality testing, the installation of pump and pipe systems, electrical connections — and at the end of it, clean water flowing straight into the hospital.
What this means in practice:
- 652 people per day — 450 inpatients and 202 hospital staff — will have access to safe, clean water.
- Waterborne infection risks will drop, making treatment safer for every patient in the ward.
- Hygiene standards will rise, and the hospital environment will be healthier as a result.
- Time and effort currently spent on water procurement can be redirected toward patient care.
By supporting this well, you can help hundreds of patients and healthcare workers in Afghanistan start every day with water they can trust.
