To survive in the land of poverty
Qurbani 25.08.2017

We are in Djibuti to deliver IHH’s kurban shares to those in need. We arrive at a village, passing through deserts on the road. We visit houses made of pieces of brushwood and shoddy clothes. There are only empty pots in them. I understand what poverty means here.

We are greeted with an American flag in the entrance of the village. It suprises us to see the flag of Imperialism in this desert village.

Then I realize: The only thing they care is a few bites of food to satisfy their hunger, and some sips of water. They don’t have any energy left to see further into future. It is futile to talk about imperialism to the people who might die in a week out of starvation. We should first lend our helping hand to them. And then the generations they will teach and educate may find their own way.

I am Demet Tezcan. I was in Djibuti with the IHH team for 2007 qurban organizations.

We are setting off for another journey again. We will be with the oppressed and the wronged as always, and will distribute your qurbans to those in need in 106 countries and regions. You can contribute with your own qurban to this journey of charity.
