90-year-old scholar hit roads for aid to Syria
Egyptian scholar Abdussalam, 90, travelled to Turkey from Egypt in a bid to help conflict-stricken Syrians.
MiddleEast, Syria, Turkey 16.04.2013

Muhammad Abdussalam, who is a legal advisor to Ahmed al-Tayyib, sheikh of Al-Azhar University in Egypt, donated money to IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation for it to be used to buy food supplies for Syrians.

Abdussalam, one of the leading scholars in Egypt, paid a visit to IHH Syrian Studies Coordination Center, in order to extend a helping hand to Syria. He submitted the donations he collected for Syrians to IHH’s  Muhammed Yorgancıoğlu.

Delivering a speech at Hatay office, Abdussalam said: “Tens of thousands of people have lost their lives in Syria. There is a years-long tyranny in question. Hundreds of people lose their lives every day. Having seen all these, I could not have stayed indifferent to them. In order to take aid to our Syrian sisters and brothers, I hit the roads from Egypt and came here at this age of mine.”

With the donations delivered by Abdussalam, 7,000 packages of canned food, 7,000 packages of tuna fish, 7,000 packages of instant soup, 10,000 packages of beans and 5,000 packages of baby biscuits were bought for Syrians.

IHH teams delivered the 36,000 aid items to Syrians who took shelter in camps and madrasahs in Syria.
