Seven residents of Istanbul Orphanage that was built by IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation in the wake of the 2004 tsunami disaster in Aceh, Indonesia to shelter orphan children are very excited these days.
The seven Acehnese orphan girls, who are supported with regular monthly cash assistance in the sponsor family system of IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, were placed at the departments of their choice at the state university thanks to their high scoring at placement exams.
Of the seven girls, who were trained for the exams at Aceh Istanbul Orphanage, Asmaul Husna and Miftahul Cenneh are going to study Arab Language and Literature, Mariana and Arlini Rahayu Theology, Ratna Dewi Economics, Suryani and Nurul Arisca Devi Islamic Economy.
The girls were given presents for their achievement at a ceremony held at Istanbul Orphanage. They were overjoyed and they advised other orphans at the orphanage to study hard in order to secure college education of their choice.
To date, 30 orphan girls from Aceh Istanbul Orphanage have been accepted to various departments at universities. They are now living at flats near their campuses. The girls are supported by IHH with contributions of charitable people from Turkey and once they have completed their education they will be self-sufficient enough to set up their own lives.
