Volunteers from the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation and Konya Anatolia Humanitarian Aid Association (AYDER) travelled to Bosnia-Herzegovina as part of activities to mark the Orphan Solidarity Days.
IHH and AYDER volunteers delivered clothing and stationery sets to the orphans the IHH sponsors in the country. In addition, gift packages prepared by charity givers in Konya were also delivered to the orphans. Stationery supplies were distributed to 75 orphans and clothing was distributed to 50 orphans in total.
Delivering the balloons, candies, balls and T-shirts they brought from İstanbul to the orphans, the IHH team had a lunch with them at a kebab restaurant at the beginning of their program. Then, desserts which were brought from Konya were served.
Some of the orphans who have seen Sarajevo for the first time had souvenir photos taken in front of the water dispenser in the city. The IHH team and orphans later visited the grave of Alija Izetbegović, one of the great commanders of the Bosnian War. Martyrs from Konya who gave big support to the Bosnians in their fight for freedom against Serbs were also commemorated. Orphans, who were later taken to a zoo, had an unforgettable day. The orphans most of whom were from the rural areas of Sarajevo had the chance to see Sarajevo in addition to a zoo for the first time in their lives. They get very excited seeing many animals closely for the first time at the zoo.
IHH and AYDER team then took 110 Bosnian orphans to a cinema where they watched an animation film in Bosnian eating pop corns and drinking fruit juice. After the cinema, aid volunteers and orphans had a dinner which includes Bosnian pastry, fries and chicken.
Aid workers who slaughtered the aqiqah and nazhr animals, donated by Turkish charity givers, and delivered their meat to the people in need said they will never forget the days they have spent in Bosnia-Herzegovina. They called on the entire Turkey to give support to the IHH’s aid campaigns for orphans.
