IHH distributes Quran copies in Darfur
IHH has distributed copies of the Quran to 1,045 students in Darfur. The Quran is recited as a sacred text and used as a book to learn how to read and write in regions of Darfur that lack schools.
Africa, Sudan 13.01.2010

The IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation distributed copies of the Quran to 1,045 students studying at 16 different religious teaching centers in Nyala, Darfur. In Nyala, children can only access education in makeshift Quranic quarters. The Quran is not only recited as a sacred book but also as a book to learn how to read and write. Darfur students use wooden sheets as notebooks because of economic hardships.

The IHH had previously distributed 3,500 Quran copies in 2008 and 2,000 in early 2009 to contribute to education of children in Darfur.
