Gaza-bound Viva Palestina convoy crossed into Syria from the Turkish city of Kilis. Both Turkish and Syrian citizens flocked to the border to welcome the convoy.
Europe, MiddleEast, Turkey 21.12.2009

Large crowds welcomed Viva Palestina convoy with Palestinian flags as it entered Syria from Turkey.

Bülent Yıldırım, president of the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation as the organizer of Turkish leg of the convoy, said: “Our Syrian brothers and sisters welcomed us with love and interest. When it comes to the Palestinian cause, all Syrians act in unison. With the support and prayers of concerned people we will hopefully break the embargo.”

Following clearance of border formalities the convoy headed for Damascus. Aleppo residents flocked to road sides to show support for the convoy as it passed through the city. Doctors working at Azam Hospital and scores of students gathered outside to greet the convoy. Syrian military personnel and police officers were stationed in certain points to ensure security of the convoy. The next stop of the convoy is Jordan.
