Under the leadership of IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, a container town which will provide shelter for ten thousand Syrians is being constructed in Syria, near the borderline of Turkey.

The ongoing civil war in Syria has been continuing for 4 years now. Since then, seven million people have fallen into the status of a refugee while more than three million people fled their own country.

Since the beginning of the conflict till now, IHH has been providing aid to the region. Now they are taking responsibility for the refugees by building tents and container towns close to the Turkish border.

The IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation’s Kilis office is directing Syrians fleeing from the conflict to the new camps they have built which is away from Esselame. Within this context, Siccu and Semmar camps are taking in people who are trying to escape from the conflict as well.

THE BIGGEST PROJECT IN SYRIA

Now IHH is constructing a new camp with 1000 containers in the Siccu village which is connected to Aleppo’s Azez region. The camp has the capacity to cater for 10, 000 people therefore making it the biggest project in Syria. The container town will be built on approximately 95 acres. Inside it will have a cafeteria, health centre, a mosque and social facilities will also take place.

With the scope of the project, the 300 containers which have been placed inside the camp will be completed in one moth’s time. Last year they accomplished a first by building a camp with 700 containers in the Semmar region.

Erhan Yemelek, the Kilis Coordinator for IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation provides information about the progress of the work. He recorded that the Prime Ministry of Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency is establishing camps in Syria like the ones they have built in Turkey only with slightly lower standards.

In order to minimise the problems the Syrian’s have been living, Yemelek said that they have been aiding the camps in the Esselame region for 3 years now.

Yemelek reminded us of the uneven and unstructured tents that were being built. Due to this they have decided to build container towns. He said “There were very big problems at times when the weather condition was bad. Insallah from now on life across the border will be more beautiful.”

Yemelek, added that the number of asylum seekers in Esselame region has exceeded forty thousand people.
