Arakan, SouthAsia, Myanmar 29.11.2012

IHH and AID achieved a first in Myanmar by offering medical examinations to the people in the camps in Arakan province.

IHH teams offered health examinations in Arakan where Muslim villages are set on fire and mosques and Islamic schools are destroyed. IHH has been carrying out various relief activities in the region over the past 17 years for the Muslims and for those who have taken refuge in Bangladesh.

In cooperation with AID, IHH is offering medical services in camps where Rohingya Muslims have taken shelter in Arakan’s Akyap region.

A team including Vahdettin Kaygan, an IHH official responsible for foreign aid, Dr. Murat Kadir Topçu, Dr. Aşir Keçelioğlu and translator Esra Zora, continue to offer help in Akyap in order to help elimination of health problems in the region. A mobile clinic of the local administration in the region also joined the aid team and offered medical screenings to the children in the camps in Akyap.

The health team also had the opportunity to make examinations in all the camps in the region. AID team members said there are serious health problems in the camps in addition to poor physical circumstances, adding that there is a shortage of medical supplies and the number of local doctors is insufficient.
