IHH begins cataract surgeries in Uganda
IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation has begun cataract surgeries in Tanzania and Uganda as part of its Africa Cataract Project.

A project launched by IHH in cooperation with the international aid organization, “Sightsavers,” has kicked off. As part of the agreement betweenthetwo organizations foreseeing treatment of 1,000 cataract patients in Tanzania and Uganda, surgeries in Uganda have begun.

With the free-of-charge surgeries which will be conducted in five different regions of Uganda, 500 Ugandans who lost their vision due to cataract will regain their vision.

The surgeries have begun in Apac, a province in Uganda where there are no eye doctors. 100 cataract surgeries will be performed in Apac,Kamuli,Kayunga, Mbale and Gulu provinces each. The second leg of the surgeries will take place in Tanzania where 500 other cataract patients will also be treated.

With the Africa Cataract Project, which was launched in Uganda in 2007, 70,000 Africans who suffer from cataracts have been treated so far. With the latest campaign, there is an aim to treat 100,000 more Africans.

Ships are ready, the Freedom Flotilla sail towards Gaza!
Bülent Yıldırım, the President of the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), inspected two purchased ships for the International Freedom Flotilla. Yıldırım stated, "This cargo ship has a capacity of 5,500 tons and its name is Anadolu. It will carry our country's aid and compassion to Gaza. The name of other ship is Vicdan (Conscience). This ship will accommodate conscientious activists from around the world and deliver the conscience of the world to the shores of Gaza."
