IHH carries on Japan relief effort
The IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation is carrying on relief works in Japan it commenced following the earthquake. IHH volunteer Selimhan İbrahim distributed meat to families staying in bunkers in Ots
01.06.2011

Japan was hit in March 2011 by the fifth strongest earthquake in human history. The earthquake and ensuing tsunami claimed thousands lives and leveled a number of towns. Nuclear leakage posed the most serious threat to quake- and tsunami-hit Japan. The nuclear plant in Sendai city began leaking after being hit by tsunami and leakage has not been stopped yet.

The IHH dispatched an emergency aid team to the country right after the earthquake. The four-member team organized a number of relief activities in affected areas. The IHH aid workers reached areas under nuclear threat where no one dared to enter and delivered aid to survivors. The team is still in Japan and volunteer Selimhan İbrahim is organizing relief works in crisis region. İbrahim distributed meat to affected families in bunkers in Otsuchi, Iwate. After completing relief works here, the IHH team will move to Inawashiro town 80 km away to help people there.
