IHH Health Commission visits Dadaab camp
Members of IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation Health Commission visited the Dadaab refugee camp on the Somali-Kenyan border and did fieldwork for the reorganization of medical aid in the region.
Somalia 20.10.2011

IHH has been offering health services to the Somalis who took a refuge in the refugee camp in Kenya due to hunger and drought in their country.

IHH Health Commission, led by specialist doctor Mevlüt Yurtseven, was first received by Turkish ambassador to Kenya Tuncer Kayalar. Kayalar told the IHH members that it is mostly the Turkish aid organizations which carry out relief efforts in the region while voicing his regret over the UN’s failure to effectively fight against the crisis. The commission members later met with Doctor Abdullah S. Abagira, health director of Garissa, a town which is close to the refugee camps. IHH team members received information about the medical relief efforts in the region from Abagira. IHH and Kenya Health Ministry agreed to work together in combating the humanitarian crisis in the region at the meeting.

Taking refuge in the camps on the Kenyan border due to hunger, Somali people are still fighting against starvation and drought. Members of the IHH Health Commission had a tour in the Dadaab camp and monitored health services there. The team members gathered extensive information about the health situation of the refugees in the camps.
