IHH Ramadan team in flooded Pakistan
The impact of floods in Pakistan is growing each day. IHH executive in Pakistan warned epidemics were spreading in the affected areas.
Pakistan, Turkey 09.08.2010

Heavy monsoon rains have inflicted on Pakistan the worst flooding disaster in the last eight decades. The floods have so far killed 1,600 people and affected 25 million.

Launching humanitarian aid to the country right after the flooding hit, aid workers of the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation distribute hot food to 25,000 people every day, while food packs prepared in the capital Islamabad are being distributed in the worst affected provinces.

An IHH team to coordinate Ramadan activities has reached Pakistan. Ramadan activities were shifted to regions affected by the floods. Food packs have started to be distributed in Muzaffarabad, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Haripur.

In Pakistan to coordinate relief efforts, IHH Deputy Head Yavuz Dede said the situation in the country was getting worse and no recovery had been made yet. Dede stated 25 million had been affected by the floods and cited foodstuff and clean drinking water among urgently needed relief items. Epidemics are spreading fast because of unsanitary conditions, he said and added that the death toll might rise due to deaths from epidemics. The IHH executive noted the foundation would carry on with relief supplies distributions.
