Izzet Sahin has been kept in a prison cell for 20 days since his arrest by Israeli security officials on the 27th of April, 2010 at Bethlehem checkpoint. Israel Security Agency (Shabak) kept on interrogating Izzet Sahin up to this day, but still could not put forward any concrete evidence against him.
Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs was prompted to interfere as Izzet Sahin’s time in custody was constantly being extended. Ministry of Foreign Affairs exerted political pressure on Israel asking for the release of the Turkish national. Finally, Israel has moved the court hearing planned to be held on the 20th of May, Thursday, back to an earlier date. Today, Izzet Sahin, after being interrogated one last time by Shabak, has been released. Sahin was deported after being released on the arrival of the documents signed by Israel’s Ministry of Interior.
Izzet Sahin is now expected to return to Istanbul on a flight by Turkish Airlines departing at 07.55 p.m. Turkey time. The flight is planned to arrive in Istanbul at 10.00 p.m..
