The IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, which has been implementing the project of digging water wells in Africa, has dug 14 water wells since early 2010 in Cameroon, where there is a severe water shortage problem. The residents of areas where the IHH opened wells used to provide their drinking water from rain waters or unhealthy ponds. In drier areas people had to walk on average five km every day to reach clean water. The newly drilled wells will provide around 25,000 people with clean drinking water. The foundation stated it would carry on well digging project and would raise the number wells in Cameroon to 50 by the end of this year if enough fund was secured. Meanwhile, IHH workers started preparations for new water wells in Kuseri region, which also has water shortage problem.
