IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation has distributed aid packages to the internally displaced people who fled from Binghazi and Derna where armed conflict is going on and illegal refugees who set out to go to Europe on a perilous journey.

Due to the conflict in Libya, especially in Benghazi, many families had to flee their homes. There is a great number of internally displaced people. The hampers, which contain food and cleaners including oil, tomato paste, grains, cleaning material, diapers, baby formula, milk and milk powder, were delivered to 700 families.

IHH board member Mr. Ahmet Sarıkurt who was in the visiting IHH team in Libya noted that along with the war the country is also battling with illegal refugee problem which is critically important. He underlined that they did not miss out the refugees who had to flee their homes due to the violence in their countries.

"The refugees are one of our critical problems”

Police chief Mr. Ali Suwaidi who extended his thanks to the IHH team delivering aid on behalf of charitable Turkish people to the refugee detention camp and transfer center in Tripoli, said that "The situation of the refugees is a heart wrenching human tragedy. It is one of our critical problems. Libyan administrators are trying to deal with the refugees who set out on a perilous journey of death while also dealing with the internal conflict. The refugees fall prey to the mafia and human traffickers. If we do not stop them the majority will drown in the Mediterranean.”

Police chief Suwaidi highlighted that there are several refugee detention camps in Libya.

"Thousands of people from Ghana, Gambia, Morocco, Niger and Nigeria are trying to get to Europe via Libya. We sometimes clash with mafia and human traffickers to rescue those people. Western international charity organizations, the UN and European countries avoid engaging with the refugee problem. Libya needs much help for the refugees here. We are so grateful to the Turkish people who send help,” he added.
