Somalia 13.10.2011

The youngest one of the children, a four-month-old baby with the name Hani Ahmed, now weighs 6 kilograms following a one-month-long treatment at the Avicenna Hospital in Istanbul. The baby weighed only 2,5 kilograms when it was first brought to the hospital.

IHH, which has been conducting relief projects in drought hit Somalia,  is also helping Somalis by providing medical treatment in Turkey.  Fourteen Somali children, five of whom were suffering from heart diseases, are preparing to return their country with happy faces after they regained their health in Turkey.

Private and state hospitals extend a hand to Somali children

Five of the fourteen Somali children were treated at the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Education and Research Hospital while nine others were treated at the Avicenna Hospital. Huge interest from the hospitals’ staff and the public to the children has made the happiness of the families grow bigger.

Children had various surgeries

Five of the children with heart diseases regained their health after undergoing surgeries at Mehmet Akif Ersoy Education and Research Hospital. The children, aged between 2 and 15, were discharged from the hospital following critical heart surgeries. The children at the Avicenna Hospital also clung to life following risky surgeries.

Hani Ahmed’s weight was only 2.5 kg

Hani Ahmed’s weight was only 2,5 kilograms when she was brought to Turkey for treatment. The baby was four-month old when she was brought to the country. Gaining more than 3 kg, she now weighs 6 kilograms after her treatment at the Avicenna Hospital. Now, Hani Ahmed can hold her feeding bottle with her hands and smiles at her visitors with her mother.

Children are leaving Turkey on Friday night

Following the end of their treatment, Somali children will leave Turkey on Friday night. The Somali families, who became our guests for a while by leaving their other children behind, will continue their lives in Somalia.
