IHH, which has been trying to help Sri Lankans overcome the effects of floods, which affected more than 40,000 people, has provided 10,000 Euros financial assistance to Sri Lanka.

IHH, along with its partner in the region, the Serendib Foundation, helped flood victims evacuate their homes and take refuge in temporary shelters. In addition to providing financial assistance, the IHH also delivered hot meals, dried food, hygiene and cleaning supplies to the flood victims.

A total of 40 people lost their lives, seven others were reported missing while 401,980 people were affected in the flash floods and landslides beginning in the country on Dec.18.

The floods and landslides across the country led to the demolition of 4,172 houses while 10,475 houses were partially damaged. In addition, according to data from the agriculture ministry, 180,000 hectares of land used for growing rice was also damaged in Batticaloa and Kurunegala regions by the floods.

While government officials deliver hot meals to the flood victims, dried food and water are distributed by provincial officials or relief organizations to the people.
