The police wanted to divide the convoy into two and take them to the premises where they would be staying, bypassing downtown Amman, on grounds of heavy traffic. The convoy team decided to protest the police’s decision and turned off the engines. Suddenly the city traffic came to a halt.

Military and political Jordanian authorities intervened to end the problem by persuading the convoy representatives. After negotiating with Bülent Yıldırım, president of the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, the officials decided to let the convoy enter the city in groups of ten.

A large crowd of Jordanian citizens opposed the decision not to allow entrance of the convoy into the city. They gathered around the convoy to show support.

The crisis was averted with the intervention of the Jordanian authorities, who later apologized to the convoy team.
