World’s Most Prestigious Award Goes to IHH
IHH won National Winner Award 2016 for its “Instalment of Solar Energy Panels in A Refugee Camp in Syria” project.
Syria 28.11.2016

IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation won National Winner Award 2016 as it has carries out an amazing project by installing 800 solar energy panels, which generate sustainable and eco-friendly energy for 4.500 people in a refugee camp in Syria.

IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation International Fundraising Manager Nalan Dal received the award on behalf of the foundation, which was chosen as the winner for its eco-friendly project.

Refugee Camp is Powered with Solar Energy

Once it became apparent that the Syrian crisis was not going to end soon and that people needed reasonably well living conditions IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation started building container cities that would replace tent camps. The camps located in the north of Aleppo used to rely on generators for power as there is no regular access to power. Generators were able to deliver the service only briefly though. Because of the bad quality fuel they were repeatedly breaking down thus require utmost care and costly repairs. Meanwhile these generators used to give great damage to the environment. The need for consistent access to power brought out the idea of using solar energy. As you may know solar energy panels are designed for producing power by absorbing sunrays and they have no negative effect on the global climate. These solar energy panels were installed in Azez, Sijju camp of 800 container houses that accommodate 4.500 internally displaced people. Each panel produced power enough to run a family’s fridge, fan and led lights.
