Zimbabwean Muslims get new mosque
IHH has opened a mosque in southern African country of Zimbabwe.
Africa, Zimbabwe 24.08.2012

IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation has completed the construction of a mosque it started when about 100 families in Chiutsa village in Mount Darwin District, Zimbabwe converted to Islam. The mosque named Hz. Ebubekir Mosque was inaugurated at Eid al-Fitr and will provide newly-converted Muslims with a place to worship.

There is a growing interest in Islam among Zimbabwe’s 13m population. The Muslims, who are in minority, are living a more difficult life compared to other segments of the population and their needs are ignored.

IHH has been carrying out humanitarian assistance activities and long-term projects in line with local needs. IHH-built Hz. Ebubekir Mosque aims to provide local Muslims with a place of worship and improve solidarity and fraternity among the Muslims. Built on 278 square-meters, the mosque has separate worship quarters for men and women.

The mosque is also planned to be used as a venue for promulgating Islam, distributing religious books and holding conferences and similar events.
