The trucks were sent to Syria as part of the “Winter is coming…Bread and blankets for Syria” aid campaign which was organized by around 300 civil society organizations in Turkey.
After the completion of the paper work in Akçakale, the convoy entered Syria by passing from the Akçakale Border Gate with prayers. There will be aid distributions in Raqqah, Aleppo, Hama, Homs, Latakia and rural parts of Aleppo.
“We wait for more aid”
IHH Şanlıurfa branch head Behçet Atila made a statement to the reporters following the departure of the trucks from Akçakale. He said Turkey is trying to extend a helping hand to all the people in need across the world and that the country has provided significant support to Syrian people since the start of the public unrest in Syria two years ago.Voicing his contentment over the support given by Turks to the aid campaign launched for Syria, Atila said: “We have been sending aid to the oppressed people of Syria from different places over the past two years. Finally, an aid convoy comprising of 33 trucks set out from İstanbul for Syria. We are sending 12 of these trucks, which carry 300 tons of flour, to our Syrian sisters and brothers across the border. The other trucks will cross the Syrian border from the border gates in Hatay and Kilis. May Allah be pleased with those who make good deeds. If it had not been the donations, we would be able to do none of these. We offer our thanks to charity givers and ask for continuation of their support.”
Yılmaz Urfalı, an IHH official responsible for logistics, was also accompanying the trucks. He said they will return to Turkey after delivering aid items to Syrians in Syria.
