Iraqi citizens who fled to Syria in 2014 due to the war and internal conflicts in Iraq continue to return to their country. As a result of the latest efforts, 23 more Iraqis have been reunited with their families.

Iraqis who migrated to Syria from Iraq’s Ramadi, Fallujah, Mosul, Kirkuk, and Tal Afar were brought to the buffer zone at the Oncupinar Border following customs procedures.

After undergoing checks by the Iraqi Consulate and the Kilis Directorate of Migration Management, the Iraqis returned to their country by bus.

IHH Humanitarian Diplomacy’s Taner Altun stated, "Today, we have come to the Kilis Oncupinar Border for another good and beautiful operation. We are sending Iraqi families back to their country; they were forced to leave their country years ago due to internal conflicts. Wars affect women, children, and civilians the most. Families have been separated due to the civil war in Iraq. We are working with all our might to reunite these families. We are delighted that 23 more people will be reunited with their families today. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this effort."

10,000 Iraqis have returned home

As a result of the humanitarian diplomacy efforts of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and IHH, approximately 10,000 Iraqis have returned to their country so far.
