Indonesia 06.02.2012

In order to help widen students’ perspective on life, IHH has encouraged the orphan girls to launch a newspaper.

The name of the paper was selected according to the results of a survey conducted among the girls at the orphanage. The name “Lentera,” which means torch, came in first in the survey results.

Studies were completed on the logo of the newspaper and the paper was given its final shape. At the first meeting, the framework of the newspaper was also determined. Lentera will include sections such as “Indonesia, “Aceh,” “World Page,” “Those leaving a mark in history, “Caricature- Comedy Page,” News from the Orphanage” and interviews with important figures of Aceh.

The editor-in-chief of the daily will be Evi Nadia, a student of journalism at IAIN University. The paper will be published bimonthly.

Nadia said she is very happy about her post at the paper, which she said will be an experience for her in her future studies and because she will have the chance to contribute to the development of  the personal skills of her friends.

In the meantime, there has been a distribution of tasks in the team who will work for the paper under the coordination of Nadia.

At their first meeting, the editorial team members of the newspaper were very excited and said they are looking forward to seeing the fruits of their efforts with the launch of the paper.

Reşat Başer, manager of the Aceh İstanbul Orphanage, who attended the first editorial meeting of the newspaper shared his feelings about the launch of Lentera. “I hope that Lentera which means torch will enlighten the lives of our girls so that they can always work for benevolence. May it be a light in their road when they stumble,” said Başer.
