The convoy was welcomed by a large crowd as it entered Adana. They showed an exemplary display of hospitality and escorted the convoy with their vehicles until it left the city.

The press conference of early morning moved the people of Adana. Many residents donated their golden rings and bracelet as well as cash, while children offered their allowances to be taken to the Palestinian people.

Ömer Erdoğdu, spokesman for the Mersin Union of Volunteers, handed over the key of a transit van bought with money they raised to Bülent Yıldırım, president of the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation.

Some residents donated blankets to be used by convoy participants, while some others offered bags full of oranges, a symbol of Adana city.

Palestinian flag signed

Some residents, particularly youngsters and children, signed the Palestinian flags and wrote wishes; they sent regards to the Palestinians.

Veysel Tepeli, president of the Adana Humanitarian Aid Association, said “The sensitivity of this convoy should be an example to the entire world.”

“Palestine has become a beyond parties question. All political parties and nongovernmental organizations come together when Palestine is at question,” said IHH President Yıldırım.

Promise of 5 ships to Gaza

Yıldırım stated they were planning to send five ships of relief materials to Gaza following the convoy organization, and asked for help from the people of Turkey. More information about the Gaza convoy can be obtained at filistinkonvoyu.org, ihh.org.tr or 0212 631 2121.
