We want World Orphans Day

Speaking at the conference, IHH President Bülent Yıldırım talked about the importance of meeting of civil society organizations to discuss the problems of the Islamic world.

He said the Islamic world has never been in so much trouble in any time in the history, noting: “While 90 percent of the Islamic world lives in trouble, 10 percent lives in wealth. So, we need to discuss the issue of wasting our resources and be in a fight against it. After meeting our daily needs, we should be seeking to help others. There are 200 million registered orphans in the world. Many of them fall prey to organ mafias and crime gangs. We should think about this and do something. We want to ensure declaration of the day when the Bosnian War began as the World Orphans Day. There is no such a day. We want relief efforts to be made for orphans no matter what their religion is.”

The conference, which was attended by representatives from around 200 OIC member states, aimed to develop joint projects among civil society organizations in the Islamic world, improve relations on the civilian level and strengthen historical and cultural bonds.

The conference which discussed the civil society organizations in the historical and cultural context, made some predictions about the roles of the civil society organizations regarding the long-term projects concerning political, economic and cultural problems.

Scientific presentations, debate sessions and workshops were held during the two-day conference.
