BurkinaFaso 25.08.2010

Burkina Faso is a former French colony bordered by Mali, Ivory Coast, Togo and Ghana. It has a population of 13 million. With average life expectancy 46 years Burkina Faso is one of the poorest countries in the world. The country has a cycle of one dry and one rainy season and experiences frequent droughts and floods.

Muslims, who make up to 65 percent of the Burkinabe population, lack adequate educational institutions. This situation forces many Muslim families to send their children to missionary schools. Many parts of the country have limited number of places of worship because of economic hardships.

Aid workers of the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation visited Sahara country of Burkina Faso as part of the foundation’s Ramadan campaign. The workers distributed aid in Titao, a city 250 km from Burkinabe capital Ouagadougou. Food packs were given to 1500 needy families, while clothes and stationery sets were given to 47 orphans. The IHH aid workers had iftar dinner with 2000 Burkinabe Muslims.

The IHH has so far built eight mosques, one clinic and has dug 30 water wells in Burkina Faso.
