IHH rebuilds burnt Somali village
IHH has constructed 24 new houses in Jamao village that was burned down in a fire.
Africa, Somalia 31.03.2012

A fire last September had burned down all the houses in Jamao village in Somalia. IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation started rebuilding efforts following the disaster and constructed 24 new houses for the affected families.

The foundation is carrying on with relief efforts in Somalia, which is suffering from drought and hunger. It has so far materialized a number of projects and exerts immense efforts to meet local needs.

In addition to meeting accommodation, food and health needs of the Somali people, IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation is also prepared to act with aid teams in case of emergency humanitarian situations.

The fire in September 2011 claimed many lives and razed the entire village of Jamao, where inhabitants live on farming and livestock-breeding. IHH teams met urgent needs of the villagers in the wake of the disaster and initiated a house-building project to save the inhabitants from seeking shelter in refugee camps.

A project to construct 24 dwellings was launched to stop the villagers from abandoning their farmland and to help them turn back cultivation. The houses were completed in a period of several months and handed to the families.

The construction of 24 houses, which included two rooms, a kitchen and a bathroom, cost $400,000. The families receiving keys to their new homes thanked IHH and charity-givers from Turkey.
