When did IHH’s relief efforts begin in Libya?

The first aid team from the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, formed by the IHH Emergency Aid Coordinatorhip, reached the Libyan border through Egypt on Feb. 19; only two days after the public unrest began in the country on Feb. 17.

In which regions of Libya does the IHH take aid and what kind of emergency relief does the foundation provide?

The IHH sent a total of 19 emergency aid workers, 5 of whom are doctors, to the region. The IHH aid workers are delivering humanitarian aid at the Libyan-Tunisian border, Libyan-Egyptian border and Libya’s Benghazi, Tobruk, Derna and Bayda cities. The IHH teams also has distributed hot meals, food packages and cleaning supplies to the people waiting at the Ras Jedir frontier post and established a tent city which provides shelter to 2000 people. Having offered medical screenings to the people in the Libyan cities of Benghazi, Tobruk, Derna and Bayda, the IHH teams provided the people suffering from health problems with a variety of medical supplies and medicine which includes intensive-care medicine and hemostatic drugs. The IHH aid workers also took medicine and food to the far villages and towns of Benghazi while providing financial assistance to the families of those who lost their lives in the clashes. In cooperation with Turkish embassies, Tunisian Red Crescent and relief organizations such as Tunisian Taamun Hayır Foundation, the IHH has been offering hot meals and food packages to 100.000 people daily as well as providing them with drinking water, blankets, milk and baby formula.

In addition to these, the IHH has also distributed aid supplies and money, which made a total sum of 200.000 euros, to the needy people in Libya. This assistance could be made thanks to the courtesy of the Tunisian people who collected money for the crisis-hit people in Libya and submitted it to the IHH for delivery.

What kind of contribution did the IHH make to the evacuation of Turks from the country?

In coordination with the Turkish Embassy, the IHH safely evacuated 500 Turks from Libya and helped them reach the Tunisian capital.

Does the IHH have long-term projects for Libya?

The IHH teams continue relief efforts at the Libyan-Tunisian border. There are the prospects of the Libyans’ flocking to the border due to the current turmoil in the country. The IHH emergency aid teams are waiting in the region for a new wave of migrants. A tent city has been established by the IHH in the region and it will be turned into a mobile clinic in the event of an emergency and emergency medical intervention could be offered to people there. Five IHH aid workers, two of whom are doctors, who reached the region through Egypt on 20 March 2011 to bring the patients whose treatment is not possible in Libya to Turkey, completed a feasibility study there.
