Compensation case filed against Israel in Diyarbakır
Compensation cases are being filed against Israel in Anatolian provinces in addition to İstanbul.
Palestine, MiddleEast, Turkey 13.10.2012

Compensation and libel suits have begun to be filed against Israel ahead of the beginning of the trial of Israel on Nov. 6 for its attack on Mavi Marmara ship in 2010, which left nine peace activists dead.

Eight people including the seriously-wounded passengers on the Mavi Marmara ship have filed a compensation case against Israel demanding TL5 million in total.

The cases were filed by Mavi Marmara activists Ayetullah Tekin, Çelebi Bozan, Mehmet Ali Zeybek, Fikri Karavil, Hüseyin İhsan Yenice, Hüseyin Solmuş, Selahattin Özer and Recep İdikut.

In a press statement on the day they filed the compensation cases, the complainants said: “As the activists who were attacked on the Mavi Marmara ship, we will continue walking on the path of our brothers Ali Haydar Bengi, İbrahim Bilgen, Ali Haydar Bengi, Cevdet Kılıçlar, Çetin Topçuoğlu, Necdet Yıldırım, Furkan Doğan, Fahri Yaldız, Cengiz Songür and Cengiz Akyüz who were martyred on the ship and Uğur Süleyman Söylemez who is still in a coma after he was heavily injured in the Israeli attack. Neither the wounds on our body caused by Israeli soldiers nor the tyranny of Israel will dissuade us from this path.”

In the pres statement, the activists also said: “We will continue to seek for our rights in every field. We find the launch of a trial against Israel at the İstanbul 7th High Criminal Court important given the fact that Israel killed our brothers, led to the injury of many others and treated us cruelly. We want the punishment of the tyrants as soon as possible. Our main goal is to ensure that Israeli authorities responsible for the Mavi Marmara attack are punished. We also aim to ensure their punishment through financial means by compensating for our financial losses as we know that Israeli authorities love money. Today, some of our brothers who were injured in the Mavi Marmara attack will file a compensation case against Israel demanding TL1 million while others will demand only a symbolic TL1 in compensation from Israel.”

The activists also said they want the state of Israel to remove the blockade on Gaza, particularly from the sea, to give back the lands it occupied, punishment of all the Israelis who are behind the Mavi Marmara attack at the end of the trial at the İstanbul 7th High Criminal Court and Israel’s paying compensation to all the victims of its attack. The activists also said they demand a speedy and fair trial from the judicial authorities.
