Muwahid decided to climb the highest mountain on the European continent in order to draw attention to the plight of Arakanese and Syrian people, and reached the summit at 13:00 on Saturday 1 September. The Palestinian climber had previously climbed Africa’s highest mountain Kilimanjaro in support of Palestinian children.
She announced her achievement on her personal Facebook page: “After an 18-hour up and down, slow and arduous climb, thank Allah we reached the summit at 5,635m to promote the joint campaign with IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation in support of Arakanese and Syrian peoples.”
Muwahid climbed the mountain to attract attention to the humanitarian crises in Myanmar and Syria, and to raise funds for the affected people in both countries. The funds raised will be funneled into two aid campaigns conducted by IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation for the two countries.
