IHH Support To “Voice Of Rwanda”
IHH, recently funded the renewal project of the broadcasting equipment for the “Voice of Rwanda” radio station which is the only means of mass communication belonging to the Muslim minority in Rwanda.
Africa, Rwanda 18.06.2010

Rwanda was once known as the country of pain, suffering, tears and massacres. In 1994, around 1 million people lost their lives in 100 days during armed clashes between the ethnic groups. The war between the ethnic groups of Tutsi and Hutu was one of the largest genocides in history, also known as Rwandan Genocide. Rwandan society is still suffering the consequences of this trauma and they are yet to overcome their economic problems.

Muslim population is a minority in Rwanda. They have low socioeconomic status. The only mass medium of the Muslim population in Rwanda is the “Voice of Ruanda” radio station which broadcasts from the capital, Kigali. The radio station also acts as a powerful medium to communicate the message of Islam to the general public and to inform the Muslim population about Islamic values. However, thanks to the financial limitations, their need for proper technical equipment could not be met up until recently. IHH has renewed all their technical equipment in order to improve their services and to overcome technical problems. Directors of the “Voice of Rwanda” expressed their thanks to the people of Turkey for their generosity live on the radio.
