Sri Lankan orphans have their homes
IHH donated new houses to 20 refugee familes and families who have orphans in Sri Lanka.
SriLanka 02.09.2014

IHH donated new houses to 20 refugee familes and families who have orphans in Sri Lanka.

Within the scope of the orphan activities, supporting 1008 orphans continuously and more than 2000 orphans periodically in Sri Lanka, IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation continues to carry out permanent projects in the country.

Houses for refugees and orphans

There have been many homeless families in Sri Lanka today so the house project of IHH made many refugee familes and families who have orphans happy.

Continuing its activities in Sri Lanka for more than 10 years, IHH completed the submittal of 20 houses that it constructed for refugee familes and families who have orphans within the scope of 2014 Ophan Solidarity Days. Economical conditions are really bad in Sri Lanka and a big proportion of the families live in extremely defenseless and unhealty houses that they built from canes and grass and that don't have any electricity, water and sewage system.

More than 100 thousand Muslim refugees

Sri Lanka has a population of 21 million people and 10% of its population are Muslims. It is located in the southeastern Asia. It gained its independace in 1948 after being a British colony for more than 100 years.

During the struggle between Budist Sinhalas and Hindu Tamils between the years of 1983-2009, thousands of Muslims died and hundreds of thousands of them had to migrate to other regions because of the deadly attacks carried out towards villages and towns. These massacres are known as Black Thursday Massacres. Today living as refugees in various places in Sri Lanka, more than 100 thousand Muslims wait for the day when they will be able to return their homes.
