Camps in Syria will have access to water
Refugee camps in Syria will have access to water, thanks to the collaboration of IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation and the International Water Well Association. The first water well drilling began in the Meshed Ruhin region, located in the rural area of Idlib.
Syria 22.03.2021

IHH just launched a new water well project for the civilians living in the camps in Syria together with the International Water Well Association. The project aims to meet the water needs in the camps in Syria. Each day 11.000 people will benefit from the water well that will be opened in the Meshed Camp as the NGOs’ pilot project.

Millions of Syrian people were forced to live in camps due to the civil war that has entered its 11th year. Because of this, hundreds of thousands of people are living in extremely limited spaces. The people are experiencing difficulty in accessing water because the level of the underground water sources is low. To meet the water demands of people living in this region, the International Water Well Association is providing people with access to water using technically developed pneumatic and percussion drilling systems transported from Turkey. The drilling depth of the well opened with this system is calculated at 570m and capacity 300m3 daily.

World Water Day

Since declared by UN General Assembly in 1993, 22 March has been commemorated as World Water Day.

On World Water Day, the UN supports and coordinates international events held by different organizations that conduct water projects.

According to UN reports, 2.2 million people in the world are deprived of drinking water.

To commemorate this important day, IHH in collaboration with the International Water Well Association is providing these people with clean water.

International Water Well Association

The International Water Well Association is an independent non-governmental organization founded on 21 January 2020 consisting of committed volunteers with the aim of supplying drinking/utility water demand in regions where there is a shortage of water all over the world.
