Educational project for Tanzanian imams and instructors
In Zanzibar Island all 500 imams and madrasah instructors will be given training to help them teach religious subjects in modern and more effective ways.
Africa, Tanzania 15.01.2010

There are about 2,000 madrasahs (religious schools) in Zanzibar Island of Tanzania. Children of Zanzibar, where Muslims make 95 percent of the population, attend these madrasahs from kindergarten through secondary education. However, instructors of these vital madrasahs and the methods used fail to meet contemporary needs of the society. As part of a project by the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation all 500 imams and madrasah instructors will be provided with training to upgrade their teaching of religious subjects to contemporary practices. The project will be carried out by offering 10-day long educational seminars and workshop activities in each region by professional educators. Venue and materials required for the project will be provided by the Ministry of Madrasahs.

Project Cost: $10,000

Country: Zanzibar Island, Tanzania

Estimated Duration: 2 years

Number of Beneficiaries: 500 imams and madrasah instructors
