Yemen’s health crisis is continuing

The ongoing conflict has had a huge impact on Yemen civilians. When the conflict became even more severe in March 2014, a grave humanitarian crisis erupted in the country. Due to the lack of medication and medical equipment, many Covid-19 patients and other patients with respiratory problems cannot be treated with oxygen. On top of that, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that in the first nine months of 2020, suspected cholera cases had reached 200.000.

The UN office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that 9 million people were affected by the decrease in food aid in Yemen since April. In addition, 1.3 million people have been deprived from healthcare services because surgeries in 121 facilities were halted due to the lack of financial means in the field of healthcare. The WHO report states that by the end of the year 1 million people will be totally deprived of health services and 18 million people, including 6 million children will be affected by epidemics including diphtheria, measles, cholera and dengue.

IHH, that is continuing healthcare operations with the support of its donors, will continue to heal the wounds of the people in Yemen.
