Aid to Yemeni cancer and dialysis patients
IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation provided 3 month food and medication needs of 234 cancer and dialysis patients in Sana’a, the capital of Yemen.
Yemen 13.09.2018

Yemen has been experiencing a major political and humanitarian crisis for seven years. A solution to the crisis in the country involving various actors has still not reached any significant progress. Due to the ongoing internal conflict and political instability, the economic and social structure has come to a halt. While state institutions have not been able to provide citizens with adequate services, IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation is materializing aid projects for aggrieved families in this country suffering from a major humanitarian crisis. In this scope, IHH delivered humanitarian aid to 234 Yemeni patients with the support of our donators.

3 months food and medical aid was provided to a total of 234 cancer and dialysis patients in the Yemen Patient Care Center in the capital Sana’a that is operated by Dar al-Shafaqa and supported by IHH. The food, accommodation and medication needs are provided to patients in the Yemen Patient Care Center. We need donations to continue this project and maintain our support for these patients.

Humanitarian situation in Yemen

As in the case of many sectors, the health sector has deteriorated significantly due to the increase in violence in Yemen, and health centers particularly in rural areas are unable to provide health services. In view of this, people are travelling to Sana’a and trying to receive treatment in hospitals that are continuing to provide services in the city. As these people, a majority who face great hardships and lack financial means must stay in Sana’a for long periods to receive treatment, they are forced to stay in the hospital grounds, in parks or huts. In fact, some of the patients have to go home and return to the hospitals again for treatment after a resting period. As some patients cannot return home, they remain in Sana’a and sleep in the streets until the date for treatment. Patients say this is due to the lack of financial means.
