One in every ten of the world’s population does not have access to drinking water. Inadequate water consumption is causing an increase in epidemics. Due to the lack of rain, extreme evaporation, overconsumption and pollution, global water resources are drying up rapidly. IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation strives to ease the condition of millions of people worldwide with challenges in finding water. The most important step in this term is opening water wells in regions in need.
Almost 5 million people benefit from the water wells
Throughout 2021, IHH’s water well project has enabled hundreds of thousands of people to access drinking water by opening water wells in Africa and Asia. Last year alone, IHH opened water wells in 18 countries to meet the daily water needs of 930.000 people. The total number of water wells opened by IHH between 2000 and 2021 has reached 11.741; the total number of people benefitting from these wells on a daily basis has reached 4 million 882 thousand.
The countries where IHH opened water wells in 2021 are as follows:
Afghanistan, Benin, Chad, Ghana, Guinea, Cameroon, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Sierra Leonne, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
These water wells also contribute as a source of livelihood
The water wells opened in these countries not only provide the people with their demand of clean and drinkable water, but they are also used in livestock farming and small agricultural activities therefore contributing to their livelihood. These water wells have become a source of joy for the people in the region, and at the same time, they also form a bridge between the locals and our donors.
How can we support these water wells?
Donors can contribute 5 TL to these water wells by sending an SMS to 3072 via all the operators texting the code WATER WELL. Donors that want to meet the entire cost of a water well can donate via IHH’s bank account numbers or online via our website.
