First 135 trucks of an international humanitarian aid convoy are crossing into Syria from Turkey today through three border crossings and will be distributed to the Syrian people who have been affected tremendously by the ongoing crisis for the last three years. The content of the aid convoy ranges from food supplies, mattresses, hygiene and cleaning items kits, baby needs packets, baby diapers, milk, water to medicines and medical supplies.
By means of the aid campaign called “I NEED YOU”, initiated in the last quarter of the year 2013, the aim was being pursued to send basic relief items to affected people of Syria. Within the scope of this campaign upwards of 1,000 trucks were organized by IHH itself and crossed into Syria loaded with vital humanitarian relief items.
On the second phase, during March 2014 IHH-Humanitarian Relief Foundation called upon its International Partner Organizations and charitable individuals to join the campaign. The invitation received great response from different countries and first part of aid is being realized today on Friday, 11th of April.
30 NGOs are participating from 15 different countries in the joint convoy with a total number of 300 trucks whose total value is 16 million Turkish Lira.
Bülent Yildirim, President of IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, speaking at the press conference, expressed his appreciation for the great response among the international community who realized this large international aid convoy crossing. “This convoy is a bond of brotherhood and a gratifying event declaring that even in its fourth year the Syria crisis is still a leading issue in our agenda. Nevertheless the latest humanitarian screenshot highlights the terrifying trend among Syrians and requires a stronger attention and commitment from all international parties as negative propaganda caused an ignorance towards Syria crisis. We call upon all organizations to take international action for delivering humanitarian aid to hard reach and besieged areas by the regime”.
IHH and all partner organizations are continuing to call on all parties to join this event and encourage the delivery of humanitarian relief for Syrian people; women and children who are in urgent need and struggling to survive day by day.
