Afghanistan 26.12.2023

Representatives from various fields, including the Afghan government, international civil society, academia, and former government officials are participating in the event. The Forum, which will last for three days, discusses various issues in Afghanistan, including development, employment, and offers solutions.

The first day of the forum was participated by former Ambassador for Afghanistan Oğuzhan Ertuğrul, Director-General for South Asia at the Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Fatima Gailani, President of the Afghanistan Future Thought Forum Professor Sultan Barakat from Hamad Bin Khalifa University, former UN Special Representative for Afghanistan Feridun Sinirlioğlu, IHH President Av. Bülent Yıldırım, IHH’s member of the Board of Directors responsible for Humanitarian Diplomacy Abdullah Altay, and many other participants.

Call for consultation on problems

Bülent Yıldırım emphasized the importance of resolving problems through consultation based on justice and fairness in his speech. Yıldırım stated, "In this way, we can identify our minimum common denominators and have the opportunity to act with a common mind. Otherwise, we would waste the energy that we could have used to devote ourselves to the development of our country, the education of our youth, and the welfare of our people to compete with each other, which would weaken us."

"Don't isolate Afghanistan"

Yıldırım called on states, the United Nations, and international institutions, saying, "Do not isolate Afghanistan. Do not impose economic, political, or diplomatic embargoes. Support this people who have been exhausted by wars for 40 years. Remove the obstacles of emergency humanitarian aid and development projects."

The first-day program of the forum concluded after speeches made by the participants.

States must do what is necessary to stop the massacres in Gaza
A press conference titled “The Genocide Continues: Don’t Forget Gaza!” was held by the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation. Speaking at the conference, IHH Secretary General Ahmet Göksun stated, “Just as states managed to stop the Israel-Iran war within 12 days, they must also do everything in their power to stop the massacres in Gaza. They owe this to humanity.” To the many journalists that attended the press conference held at the IHH headquarters, the first speaker, IHH Board of Trustees Member İzzet Şahin, emphasized that a great genocide and massacre is taking place in Gaza: “According to the US’ own admissions, bombs equivalent to the power of 6 nuclear bombs have been dropped on Gaza. The massacres in Gaza continue to take place. The blockade must be lifted immediately. For nearly 20 years, an unprecedented blockade has been imposed on Gaza. There were times when not even a glass of water could enter. Moreover, violence is used against civilians trying to break the blockade. Ships set out and are attacked in international waters. Others try to break the blockade by land and are prevented. If you are going to prevent these aid efforts, then you should deliver humanitarian aid yourselves. You must lift the blockade yourselves.”
