Afghanistan’s Latest Ordeal: Drought
After a huge destruction due to decades-long wars and occupations, Afghanistan now faces a massive drought, particularly in the city of Paktika.
Afghanistan 25.08.2025

770 thousand people live in Paktika, the largest acreage in Afghanistan. According to public information, Paktika is the poorest city in the country. The conditions are getting even more dire because of the current drought: children are suffering from drought-related illnesses; clean water is scarce and food shortage has now reached a concerning level.

This year, due to the drop in rainfall and the rising drought, Afghanistan’s crop yield declined by 50 percent. It has been observed that the level of the ground water fell by 10-20 meters. It has also been reported that animals have also died as a result.

In its emergency phase assistance, IHH humanitarian relief foundation distributed 1.100 food parcels. The parcels contain 25 kg flour, 5 l oil, 7 kg rice, 4 kg bean, 4 kg sugar, 4 kg date, and 1 kg green tea. We have been conducting various humanitarian activities in Afghanistan for a long time, and we continue to provide assistance in numerous fields including education, health, food, and shelter among others.
