IHH has been carrying out relief efforts and aid projects aimed for the development of Somalia for about a decade. The foundation, which sped up its efforts in the country in the aftermath of a drought last summer which affected hundreds of thousands of people, is carrying out a wide range of projects in Somalia including food delivery, opening of water wells, provision of medical services and jobs to the locals.

Developing projects to meet the needs of the people in the region and providing jobs to the locals, the IHH is also opening mosques in poverty-stricken neighborhoods so that people can pray altogether.

One of such mosques, Yakup Asipi Mosque, constructed by the IHH in Rajo neighborhood in Jazira region was inaugurated by Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdağ who recently paid a visit to the country.

Turkish ambassador to Somalia Kani Korun, IHH deputy chairman Murat Kavakdan, Turkish Cooperation and Development Agency (TİKA) President Serdar Çam and officials from the Turkish Airlines (THY), Turkish Red Crescent and Religious Affairs Directorate also took part in the inauguration ceremony.

Prior to the ceremony, Bozdağ received detailed information from the IHH officials about the foundation’s relief efforts in the region and offered his thanks to the IHH for its services in the country so far. Delivering a short speech at the ceremony, Bozdağ said the IHH has laid the foundation of a large orphanage in the region and the foundation of this orphanage was laid by himself.

The deputy prime minister also chatted with the orphans in the region who have been cared by the IHH for 10 years. At the end of the program, Bozdağ presented the keys of the houses the IHH constructed in North Shebelle’s Jamao village to the owners of these houses.
