Gaza convoy to deliver vehicles, relief supplies
Freedom to Palestine Convoy that left Arish on 6 January entered Gaza in groups of 20 vehicles. Relief materials will be delivered to the Palestinians after a huge demonstration to be organized at 15:
Europe, Palestine, MiddleEast, Turkey 07.01.2010

After resolving the crisis with Egypt the Palestine convoy left the Arish port and crossed into Gaza late at night. The convoy that is led by the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation was welcomed by cheers in Gaza. The convoy entered in an atmosphere of festival accompanied by moving moments. The convoy representatives and lawmakers had a meeting with Ismail Haniyeh, default prime minister in Hamas-controlled Gaza. Haniyeh noted he had been closely following the developments about the convoy and called the activists that entered Gaza despite all difficulties as “heroes.”

A demonstration will be organized on 7 January with the attendance of thousands of people. The 155 vehicles and relief materials brought with the convoy will be donated to the Gazan people following the demonstration.

Another obstacle from Egypt

The convoy team is still having troubles with Egypt although it has already entered Gaza. Egypt, which has so far broken all promises it made to the convoy, has now restricted the time convoy can stay in Gaza. It had previously agreed to let the activists stay in Gaza for 48 hours, but reduced it to 24 hours after all the vehicles had entered the area. The convoy representatives are talking to Egyptian authorities to resolve the disagreement.

The vehicles and relief materials brought along the convoy will be delivered to Palestinian people in need under the supervision of an IHH-led commission.
