An Eid morning at Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan
On the occasion of the Eid al-Adha, a group of volunteers from the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation paid visits to Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan to help the refugees who had fled to this count
Palestine, Jordan 02.12.2010

First saying the basmala, we headed to the “Suhne” camp at Zerka. This is the first camp established by the Palestinian refugees in 1998. After living in tents for years, the refugees built mud-brick houses for themselves. Around 10,000 people live in this camp where there is neither a school nor a medical facility. It is very difficult to reach the city center from this camp due to its location.

When asked about the life at the refugee camp, nearly all the women give the same answer with a look in their eyes reflecting their agonies.

“I am trying to find out what I could give my children to eat today. For tomorrow, I say, Allah knows.”

Leaving the residents of the Suhne camp to their fates, we headed to the Suf camp in Ceraş where 15,000 people live. The picture was the same here. Then, we headed for the Gaza camp. This refugee camp was established in 1967 and hosts 14,000 refugees who are all from Gaza. According to official information, there are 650 orphans at camp Gaza. While 400 of these orphans are being taken care of, the rest 250 wait for a helping hand to extend them. Their situation is heart-breaking.

Stopping by at other refugee camps, we listened to the problems of other needy families. By distributing them sacrificial meat, we tried to sooth their pains a little bit. The smile in their faces was worth seeing. Their smiles gave some consolation to our broken hearts. The refugees sent their greetings and thanks to their brothers and sisters who did not forget them through making donations. After sacrificing 229 heads of cattle donated by charitable people and distributing their meat to 916 needy families, we returned to Turkey with the prayers of the Palestinian refugees.
