IHH Aids Flood Victims
IHH delivered aid supplies to 24 families who were hit by flood disaster following the heavy rains in Gebze.
Turkey 26.06.2010

A few days ago, heavy rains caused flood disaster in Gebze town of Kocaeli province in Turkey. Hundreds of homes and workplaces were affected by the flood. The rain also blocked the main road between Tuzla and Gebze. Hundreds of drivers had to take refuge in the nearest petrol stations and offices after they had to leave their cars behind on the road. Vehicles formed kilometers of lines on the roads.

IHH Emergency Relief Team reached the disaster-stricken area soon after the flood. Following the planning, 24 families received aid items such as sofas, carpet and food aid boxes as a start.

Bektas family is one of those who have been affected by the flood. The couple were rescued by the neighbors who had to break the door to get in as the floodwaters invaded young couple’s house. The Bektas were newly married and were still paying the installments for their furniture which is now completely destroyed by the disaster. IHH teams delivered household furniture to this couple as a support.
