IHH marks Eid in Arakanese refugee camps
IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation rejoiced at Eid al-Fitr Arakanese refugees with relief assistance.
Arakan, SouthAsia 20.08.2012

The Muslim Arakanese who fled to Bangladesh to escape persecution by the Buddhist Myanmar government and Buddhist fanatics are staying at refugee camps here.

The refugees are struggling against such problems as food and accommodation shortages, and infectious diseases. The Muslims in the camps are surviving on external aid.

When asked “What does Eid mean to you?” all the camp residents gave the same response: “The day we find a plate of rice to eat is our Eid [feast].”

Muslims all around the world are sending various types of aid to Muslim Arakanese living in camps; however, the effectiveness of aid is dependent on its being regular, diverse and continuous. Aid teams of IHH are providing regular and extensive assistance to the camps.

IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, which has been assisting Arakanese people for the past 17 years and is expanding its activities in the region thanks to its local experience, marked Eid al-Fitr with Arakanese refugees.

IHH teams both exchanged Eid greetings with Arakanese refugees at Kutupalong Camp and distributed a family food packages to suffice for a month.

Muslim Arakanese, who marked Eid al-Fitr a day after Turkey, were gratified with food aid for 1000 families delivered by IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation on the first day of Eid.

The teams visited Kutupalong Camp where 7,500 families live after performing Eid prayers and distributed food packages here.

Throughout the Ramadan month IHH distributed food packages, humanitarian supplies, clothes for Eid, and cash donations to Arakanese refugees. The IHH teams, who delivered aid to the refugees living in extremely difficult conditions, spent the first day of Eid with the Arakanese refugees. The Arakanese camp residents were moved when IHH teams visited them and they thanked charitable people of Turkey and donors of IHH over their assistance.

Thousands of camp residents, particularly the children, greeted the IHH team shouting “Eid Mubarak! [Happy Feast]”

Four children with various diseases were transferred to a hospital to receive medical treatment.
