Shkoder and Lezhe towns and as well as villages in the area came under flooding after heavy rainfall and dam waters were released. There was extensive damage after flooding. The level of flood waters rose by 1.5 and 4 meters in flooded areas. Preliminary survey revealed that 2,949 houses were substantially damaged, while 10,400 hectares farmland was submerged. About 5,000 residents were evacuated from the affected area to safer locations. Local people’s mainstay livestock farming was also hit by floods. Over 10,000 heads of animals perished. The flooding is predicted to have caused a damage of €66 million.

Water level has reached the maximum level and authorities are worried the risk could get higher.
