The impact of the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that hit Van area last October is still strongly felt. IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, which arrived in the earthquake zone hours after it occurred, is continuously assisting the affected people.
IHH teams are not only conducting relief efforts in the city of Van but also supporting earthquake survivor families that moved to neighboring cities after the occurrence.
Our mobile soup kitchen started distributing hot meals in the town of Erciş, one of the worst hit areas in Van, shortly after the earthquake and moved to Van city center after a second earthquake hit the city. It has since then been providing hot meals to 5000 people a day. So far 700,000 hot meals have been distributed by the kitchen.
Considering the dire need for food and food products that was caused by accommodation hardships, stagnation in commercial activities and unemployment-led drop in purchasing power of local people in the wake of the earthquake, our soup kitchen is providing a big relief. The kitchen is currently offering hot meals to those in need on İskele Boulevard.
Moreover, IHH teams distributed food packages to 2405 families who, after the earthquake, left Van for Sakarya, Ankara, Mersin, Adana, Kahramanmaraş, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Elazığ, Diyarbakır, Batman, Siirt, Tatvan, Muş and Ağrı cities.
