IHH rushes aid to Pakistan flood victims
IHH aid workers distributed hot food to 25,000 people affected by flooding in Pakistan’s Muzaffarabad, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Haripur regions. Food packs prepared in Islamabad were given to people
SouthAsia, Pakistan 02.08.2010

Heavy monsoon rains in Pakistan have caused the worst flooding disaster in 35 years. More than 1,400 had been killed and 1.5 million people left homeless by floods in Punjab, Baluchistan, Sindh and Jammu and Kashmir.

Monsoon activity is expected to continue for another week. Asthma, diarrhea, skin allergies, and cholera outbreaks are feared in the areas affected by floods.

The IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation initiated aid delivery to the region right after the flooding. Aid workers in the area reported urgent need for tents, food items, clothes, medication, and medical equipment, blankets, cleaning materials, plastic household goods, kitchenware, and clean drinking water. In Muzaffarabad, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Haripur, some of the areas affected by the flooding, 25,000 people were given hot food. Aid packs prepared in Islamabad were sent to worst-affected provinces. Further preparations are underway to deliver aid to more people.
